On Tuesday the 9th of May, 2nd year students went to Glendalough, Co. Wicklow on a religious retreat. We left Mount Anville early on three buses. We were split into four groups called love, joy, peace and hope. We arrived at the centre around 10am and in our assigned groups, completed different activities. Some of these activities included touring the monastic city, tying ribbons to the wish tree and visiting the well, which unfortunately had no water in it. We also completed 10 minutes of mindfulness and meditation.
Around 12, we all gathered together as a year group and started the hike that St. Kevin walked nearly 1500 years ago. We had great fun on the hike as we enjoyed the sunshine and enjoyed chatting to our friends. The walk took about two hours but seemed shorter as we were all thoroughly enveloped in the views of the picturesque scenery and lake.
We ate our lunch once we arrived back at the centre. We then watched a short, interesting documentary about the history and culture of Glendalough and the surrounding area. We then received chocolate and we wrote a letter to our future third year self. Afterwards, it was unfortunately time to go and we left we a clear and refreshed mind.
We would like to thank Mr. Mallon, Ms. Davis and Ms. McConalogue for accompanying us on this trip. We would also like to express our gratitude to Ms. Fitzgerald, our Year Head for organising this fantastic retreat. We all had a fabulous and reflective time!
