On Wednesday the 25th of October the string section of the orchestra were delighted to have the opportunity to play and practice with Hugh Murray, who plays violin for the RTÉ concert orchestra.
We were all ready and tuned in the music room at 7:45. We started our rehearsal with a new piece arranged by Hugh called ‘On Raglan Road’. This is a traditional Irish piece and after running through it a couple with Hugh’s expertise we had really improved.
Next we moved on to one of our favourites, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables. We played through it and then focused on dynamics and vibrato which really brought the piece to life.
To finish we played a Beauty and the Beast medley. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing with such an amazing violinist. It was the first time that the orchestra had someone in to work on just the string section. As a section we sound much better and have improved our sound a lot. We are extremely grateful to Hugh for all his help and hope to work with him again in the future.
