On the 23rd of October, I took part in a poetry competition called "Poetry Aloud". I went with four other girls from second year: Tara Power, Fiona Hagerty, Martha Bulfin, Emily Duane and one girl from first year, Elise O'Brien. With the help of Ms. Gibbons, each of us learnt two poems. One of them was a choice from a group of anthologies and the other poem was called "Kerr's Ass", which everyone had to learn. We learnt these poems over a few weeks, and it all paid off when we performed our poetry on stage in the Nation Library of Ireland. There were four other schools there. The first round of the competition was reading "Kerr's Ass". Once everyone had completed reciting it, we took a break and then performed our choice poems. The judges announced the winners about twenty minutes after everyone had completed their poems. Unfortunately, none of us made it through to the next round but each and every one of us put 100% into it and it was a great experience. We would definitely recommend it to everyone, it doesn't matter how good you are at speaking in front of an audiences. It is a great opportunity to practice your public speaking.
We would all especially like to thank Ms. Gibbons for all of her help.
