Extra Curricular Information 2024-2025

Extracurricular activities are an essential element of every students’ holistic development and wellbeing. All students are strongly encouraged to participate in any of the activities listed below.

Getting involved in any extra curricular activity is a great way to meet new people, form friendships and fully engage in school life in Mount Anville secondary school.

This booklet provides a brief description of the various sports teams, musical groups & clubs/societies available in Mount Anville.

Art Club All ages

An opportunity for those who are interested in Art to develop their creativity and artistic talents. Art club is open to all students, both junior and senior. You do not have to study Art to become a member.

Athletics All ages

An extra curricular activity that gives all Mount Anville students the opportunity to access and compete in various Track and Field disciplines such as Walks, Throwing, Jumping and Running. (Summer term only)

Badminton Year 3 - 6

An opportunity for both existing and aspiring badminton players to practice their fundamental Badminton skills .

Basketball All ages

Mount Anville has a wide variety of Basketball teams which endeavour to cater for all students who wish to hone their court skills and compete as part of a team.

Book Club Year 1-3

The school library is open Monday to Friday. All students are welcome to browse the shelves, borrow or return books. Junior students are welcomed to take part in one of the book clubs which run throughout the year.

Chamber orchestra All ages (Selected)

A space for selected students to perfect their classical musical skills and play as part of a small, yet extremely talented group of musicians.

Choir All ages

Mount Anville Choirs preform at many school events e.g. Carol services and school masses. Choirs also preform at inter school competitions throughout the year.

Chess Club All Years

The Chess Club is a fun and engaging group for secondary school students to learn and play chess, develop strategic thinking, and improve problem-solving skills. Open to all skill levels, the club offers a welcoming environment to practice, compete, and enjoy friendly matches with peers.

Cricket All years

Students have the opportunity to participate and compete for the school in one of Irelands fastest going field sports. (Summer term only)

Cross country All years

Students can develop their aerobic abilities, team working skills and contribute to their overall physical well-being. Open to beginner, intermediate and advanced runners. (Winter term only)

Dance Club All years

The Dance Club is a vibrant group for secondary school students to explore various dance styles, improve their technique, and express creativity through movement. Open to all experience levels, the club provides a fun and supportive environment to learn routines, perform, and build confidence.

Debating All years

Debating is a busy and vibrant club which has weekly meetings and numerous inter schools’ competitions.

Drama Selected group

The Drama Club is an exciting group for secondary school students interested in acting, directing, and stage production. It offers a creative environment to build confidence, develop performance skills, and collaborate on plays and skits, welcoming all levels of experience.

Folk choir group All Years

Anew addition to the Mount Anville Extracurricular offerings, the Folk choir club offered students the opportunity to express their musical talents in a niche and collaborative setting.

GAA Year 3-6

Students have the opportunity to showcase their Gaelic football skills and ability while competing for the Mount Anville GAA team.

Games club 1st Years

The Games Club is a lively group for secondary school students to come together and enjoy a variety of board games and card games. It offers a friendly and inclusive space to develop strategic thinking, teamwork, and socialize with peers while having fun.

Hockey All years

Mount Anville prides itself on it extensive Hockey programme and proud history. Hockey remains the main extra curricular sport of choice for many of Mount Anville students.

German Club Year 1-3

An opportunity for those students who study German to practice their oral skills and immerse themselves in all things Germanic.

Irish debating All years

Engaging and contemporary debating done through the medium of the Irish language. Inter schools’ competition through the course of the year.

MUN All years

To allow students the opportunity to debate key world issues while upholding the key ideals set forward by the UN and democratic process. Inter schools’ competition take place throughout the school year.

Orchestra All years

A large instrumental ensemble, typically of classical musicians that preform at both school events and inter schools’ competitions.

Poetry Club All Years

The Poetry Club is a creative space for students to explore and express themselves through poetry. Open to all levels, the club encourages sharing, discussing, and writing poetry, fostering a supportive community for developing literary skills and self-expression.

Spanish debating Year 6

Engaging and contemporary debating done through the medium of the Spanish language.

Strength & conditioning Year 4-6

Weekly classes that provide all senior students the opportunity to develop their overall physical strength and wellbeing in an open and fun environment.

Soccer Selected group

The Soccer Club is a dynamic group for students to learn and play soccer, improve their skills, and enjoy teamwork. The club focuses on fitness, strategy, and fun while fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Tennis All years

Mount Anville prides itself in its strong and competitive presence on the Tennis court. Teams and individuals participate in various matches throughout the summer term. (Summer term only).

STEM Club Year 1

The club is facilitated by subject teachers and run by STEM prefects, it allows all interest students to develop their passion for STEM subjects and enter school competitions.

Yoga Year 1

A relaxing yet thorough discipline that enables students to practice breath control, simple meditation and adoption of specific body postures.

Other clubs and societies that Mount Anville students can participate in throughout the year.
