Philosophy
The aim of the Transition Year Programme is to promote the personal, emotional, social, aesthetic and vocational development of students and to prepare them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society. ("Guidelines for Transition Year" Department of Education). In Mount Anville there is a strong emphasis on skills-based learning in Transition Year and on guiding students towards taking responsibility for their own learning. All students follow the Transition Year Programme.
Balance and Content
Academic Programme
All students study RE, Irish, English, Mathematics, Business, a modern language of choice, Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Computer Studies, History and Geography.
Four subjects from the following list are studied in modules:
- Art, Social and Scientific Home Economics
- Classical Studies and Music
All students will take a computer studies course.
Non-Academic Programme
All students participate in:
- A Physical Education Programme
- A Social, Personal and Health Education Programme
- A Careers Programme
- A Work Experience Programme – one week's placement twice a year

Assessment
A variety of methods are used to chart the students' progress. These include regular click reports, reports, projects, tests, certification and oral presentations.
